“THE PEOPLE OF THE HIDDEN VILLAGE”

The AhíTvlâōfoh Yamassee-Guale Tribe is a living indigenous community rooted in ancestral presence, cultural continuity, and collective responsibility.

Our Mission

The Mission of the AhíTvlâōfoh Yamassee-Guale Tribe is to promote self-sustainability, integrity, and pride in our history and heritage. We are committed to strengthening our people through responsible governance, cultural continuity, and community participation, while honoring the values passed down through our ancestors.

Equally important to our mission is the cultivation of respectful and productive relationships with local government entities and neighboring communities. Through cooperation, transparency, and mutual understanding, we seek to contribute positively to the regions we inhabit and to ensure that our presence is recognized as both historical and ongoing.

Historical Background

The citizens of AhíTvlâōfoh trace their lineage to the Yamassee and Guale peoples of present-day Georgia, South Carolina, northern Florida, and eastern Alabama. These communities played a significant role in the early history of the Southeast, navigating periods of alliance, conflict, and displacement while maintaining cultural identity and continuity.

Notable moments in this history include the Yamassee War of 1715, the Treaty of Savannah in 1733, the Treaty of Augusta in 1739, and the conflicts associated with the Seven Years’ War in the Edgefield region of South Carolina between 1758 and 1761. These events reflect the political, military, and diplomatic presence of Yamassee and Guale people in the colonial Southeast.

Today, the tribal headquarters of AhíTvlâōfoh are located in the Metro-Atlanta area, where the Tribe actively participates in local Indigenous events and community efforts. Our purpose is to affirm that the Yamassee-Guale people did not disappear or go extinct, but endured—often unseen—maintaining identity, kinship, and tradition in plain sight. Through visibility, education, and engagement, we continue that story into the present.
